Seasonal Variations in Biochemical Composition of the ClamDosinia corrugatein Relation to the Reproductive Cycle and Environmental Conditions
2016
ABSTRACT Seasonal variations in biochemical composition of the clam Dosinia corrugate were investigated from August 2013 until July 2014 in Zhuanghe Bay in relation to environmental conditions and reproductive cycle. Separate biochemical analyses of the mantle, adductor muscle, foot, and gonad-visceral mass in each sex were undertaken. Spawning took place once a year from July to August and the massive spawning occurred in August with the highest water temperature and chlorophyll a levels. Utilization of glycogen took place during the spawning period, whereas protein was biosynthesized as the mature gametes formed. The glycogen value increased during the resting stage (autumn—winter). The r…

Analysis of Hemolymph Ecdysteroids in the Female Earwig: Labidura riparia
1991
International audience; The nature of hemolymph ecdysteroids was analyzed by high performance liquid chromatography-radioimmunoassay, during the two main phases of the reproductive cycles of Labidura riparia. 20-hydroxyecdysone and ecdysone were present together with polar and apoiar products.Changes in the ecdysone/20-hydroxyecdysone ratio were evidenced according to the ovarian development. During natural (feeding and sexual phase of the cycle) or induced ovarian development, an increase of the ratio occurred whereas, during ovarian rest (fasting and/or parental phase), a significant decrease was observed.Up to 40 days after ovariectomy, immunoreactive compounds were observed in the hemol…
Influence of Pharmacokinetic Variations on the Pharmacological Properties of Adriamycin
1972
Whenever it appears impossible to modify the chemical structure of drugs with a high and established therapeutic activity but a low chemotherapeutic index, pharmacological research has to find other ways of improving the chemotherapeutic index. This problem is particularly important in the case of antitumor drugs, thus justifying research into the most suitable choice of dosage and routes of administration, as well as into the pharmacological associations which enable tumor cells to be hit at various stages of the reproductive cycle. Alternatively, the therapeutic index could be improved by the use of antagonistic compounds (like, for example, methotrexate and folinic acid) which act upon t…
Hydrodynamism and its influence on the reproductive condition of the edible sea urchin Paracentrotus lividus
2013
Despite the large body of work published in the last two decades on the reproduction of the sea urchin Paracentrotus lividus, the reproductive aspects linked to hydrodynamic conditions and their influence on gonad production remain poorly understood. The present paper aims to evaluate the effect of hydrodynamism on the reproductive cycle of P. lividus. Variability in the gonadosomatic index (GSI) of P. lividus was estimated seasonally from 2007 to 2008 at two shallow sub-littoral flat basaltic areas at Ustica Island (Western Mediterranean). GSI was higher in the sites characterized by low hydrodynamism than in those with high hydrodynamism. Results also suggest a possible role for hydrodyna…
